Time: 8 hours
Medium: Only Mechanical Pencil and 9B!
lol. sorry about those lesser submissions lately...
anyways~ this one turned out cool. i only used my 9B for shading (which i ended up breaking *sniffsniff*) but the effect was sorta neat. it was the biggest short cut to getting the velvet look. haha~ i'm terrible...
Wow...this is just...wow. With a mechanical pencil. Really? >.>;; Oh the shame. -Ahem-LOVELY work. The folds of the fabric, the top hat, the shading. Everything is just perfect. I have to fav this.

OMG. so beautiful so beautiful so beautiful~~~~~~~~
absolutely stunning. ruki and his pimp hat X3
the textures are outSTANDING and the hair is just gorgeous~~
this one turned out cool. <----understatement. It's awesome! Everytime I consider choosing a reference like that one, I chicken out of it 'cause I don't think I'd be able to render the textures of either velvet (or velour, or whatever the red is on his suit) or leather. Or... fake-leather-plastic. You aced both.
I fail at identifying materials. Anyway, it's awesome. You're great with graphite.
wowowowow! You amaze me even more this time with your pencil work!
That's.. so .. awesome. All those folds in Ruki's clothes, the big blackness all around it ( 9B isn't that the... softest pencil there is?), the realistic look and accuracy!
If I didn't know any better I would say you just added the 'greyscale' effect of one of his photograph in Photoshop~!
you did an excellent job Hiren! This one deserves a better place than 'the bag of doom'!
yae~ i love picts of him in that outfit he looks soooo cool~! i love this!!!
I really think its awesome how you use traditional methods and still your art looks so unreal~ (is that the word i'm going for? blah..something like that) you seriosly have major talent! I love people who can get that effect without having to use a computer program! that shows actual talent!!
I love the texture in his jacket and and the texture of the leather collar and on the hat is so awesome!

everyone eventually finds their medium... i just happen to be really fond of graphite, pastel and words... lol. every once in a while it's still good to experiment (as i'm sure- an artist as skilled as yourself understands )
lol. thank you for the comment. the textures were intimidating at first but my biggest concern was which picture to choose from this shoot. there was one that was considerably easier with just half the body (similar in style to the uruha picture) but i ended up adoring his pose here. ^^
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
